Boys’ School

Eaton House The Manor educates approximately 450 boys between the ages of 4 and 13. We are a non-selective, nurturing and academically rigorous school, with outstanding teachers.

We believe that learning should be an exciting journey, and all aspects of school life are tailored to ensure that the boys’ natural curiosity and eagerness to learn are harnessed in these formative years.

The boys start at our Pre-Preparatory School, where they spend four happy years before moving seamlessly on to the Prep School at eight years of age. A handful of boys leave at 11+, with the great majority moving on to some of the country’s most prestigious boarding and day schools at 13+. Both the Pre-Prep and Prep schools have the same values and ethos, and, by running as two schools, we are able to create age-appropriate systems and structures so that the boys are properly nurtured and challenged throughout their time with us.

The staff at Eaton House The Manor is made up of bright, passionate and experienced educators, who promise to be ambitious for your children, to be their guides and supporters, and to offer the very best in pastoral care. Working together, we encourage boys to strive and persevere to be their best selves and to develop into well-rounded young men, respectful of each other and aware of their responsibilities.

At Eaton House The Manor we believe passionately in the benefits of single-sex education. This view is backed up by evidence at every level – from pre-school to PISA (the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment) – that boys and girls have different learning styles and arrive at school with very different social skills, fine and gross motor skills and communication skills. By offering a curriculum adjusted to fit with the developmental stages, interests and strengths of boys, we are able to create the very best start to your son’s education.

Eaton House The Manor Girls’ School shares the same site, and this allows us the best of both worlds – the chance to mix socially and to take part in some co-curricular activities, whilst creating a more bespoke experience perfectly suited to young boys.

The school is three-form entry and our youngest boys join one of three Kindergarten classes according to their age – with our youngest summer birthdays in KG1, our spring birthdays in KG2 and our oldest autumn birthdays in KG3. The combination of classes split by age, single-sex education and high staff/pupil ratios enables us to personalise our teaching to get the very most out of the boys in these early years.

Boys are taught in classes of 18-20 with a form teacher and an assistant teacher. They have specialist staff for games, music and French, and the number of specialist teachers increases with age, so that by the time they are in Year 6 they are taught by subject specialists for all lessons. Teaching is hands-on, blending the best of traditional approaches with newer advances in digital and collaborative learning. Boys are prepared for Common Entrance and Scholarship exams in the eight academic subjects of English, maths, science, French, Latin, geography, history, and theology, philosophy and religion (TPR). Just as importantly, a significant proportion of the week is devoted to sport, drama, music, art, DT, computing and PSHEE.

Our aim is to provide boys with the best education possible, empowering them to meet their next destination successfully, whether that is a top London school such as Westminster, St Paul’s or Dulwich College, or a boarding school outside London, such as Eton, Tonbridge or Radley.
