At Eaton House Schools we are not only aware of our impact on the environment but are passionate about reducing it. In keeping with our vision and efforts surrounding sustainability, we were excited to celebrate Earth Day 2023 last week. Staff and pupils came to school dressed in blue and green, and participated in a whole host of themed events and activities.
In the Girls’ School, the importance of recycling and reusing materials was a primary focus for much of the day. The Year 5 girls demonstrated their creativity and resourcefulness during a recycling fashion show, and KG made ‘re-use’ instruments out of packaging. They also enjoyed a nature themed scavenger hunt across the Manor site.
After a morning of arts and crafts, theatre and science, the boys in the Pre-Prep ventured onto Clapham Common for an exciting sports session in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the Prep School boys enjoyed putting their Geography skills into practice whilst orienteering across the Common.
It is considered extremely important for all of our pupils at Eaton House The Manor to enjoy a significant amount of time outside, not least to encourage an appreciation for nature on Earth Day! The day was not only full of fun, but also showed our pupils the importance of understanding and respecting our planet.
On a wider scale, Earth Day is an annual event that is celebrated around the world, with a range of events and movements that are coordinated by EARTHDAY.ORG. The theme for Earth Day 2023 was “Invest In Our Planet”, focusing on engaging governments, institutions, businesses and the more than 1 billion citizens who participate annually in Earth Day, to do their part. The message of ‘everyone accounted for, everyone accountable’ was highlighted to the pupils, contributing to our message that everyone at Eaton House Schools can make a difference.
