Why Not Clean Up Something This Weekend? It’s World Clean Up Day!

Posted: 20th September 2024

It’s Friday 20th and it’s World Clean Up Day – so this might be the weekend to clean something up!
You can ask a parent or guardian if you can go with them to clear up some rubbish with a litter picker if you have one, or collect bottles and cans, always wearing rubber gloves and with a grown-up in charge.

Alternatively, you might like to go through your clothes and help to recycle by giving them to charity shops. They are often really grateful for supplies of warm winter clothing at this time of year.

World Clean Up Day 2024 is part of the UN Calendar of days and aims to activate 5% of the world’s population, helping to create lasting change to societies by changing behaviour around mismanaged waste. They are inviting people from all nations to do it together!

This really is a worthwhile cause, because in 2023 there were 19.1m participants in 198 countries and territories. They represented 90% of UN member states and there were 219 tons of waste collected.

If you take a picture of your efforts and give it to your form teacher to send to marketing, we will try to include you on our social media!
